About Brooke

Hello there and Welcome to my site! I am an Omaha- based artist known for my expressionistic mixed- media paintings. Passions for science, literature, music, and history heavily influence my work. Deteriorating books in old boxes, moldering sheet music in the basement- vestiges of a time long past. These items, once so precious to their original owners are deemed worthless, discarded. I wanted to give them a new life and breathe beauty into them once more. Transforming them into mixed media paintings alive with storytelling and authenticity.

 Each painting starts long before I sit at my easel. A topic is decided and then thoroughly researched and materials for the collage layer are collected. Antique and vintage books, sheet music, and other found papers combine to support the narrative. The palette explores natural pigments and earth hues punctuated by bright pops of color and bold contrasts. Encompassing a large array of media, I use whatever is needed to give the desired effect, often employing acrylic and oil paints, watercolor, inks, metallic pigments, charcoal, and pastel. This multi-layered process invites viewers to linger, explore, and discover the hidden elements imbedded into each piece.

I want my work to reflect the experiences, particularly of women, as we move through different stages of our lives. True to life, every figure is made up of pieces of our history and the histories of those who came before us.
